More drunk fish shopping (just lost my mom, please be kind) - I bought 7 clownfish, supposedly 1-2 inches, but when they came they were 1/2" or maybe 3/4" at most

1 was doa, 3 were very feeble and would not eat at all, 3 healthy but tiny. Got them all eating bbs after a couple days.

I started them in copper power 2.5 after 2 days

They have about doubled in size, but now all 3 of the feeble ones are diseased.

Should I switch from copper to rally pro or ? Any advice greatly appreciated. Screenshot_20230722-155937_Video Player.jpg 20230722_160319.jpg 20230722_160313.jpg

Oh, sorry to see, the clown in the video is very sick and most likely cannot be saved. Looks like Brooklynella. Trouble is, copper doesn’t work well on that disease. Formalin works best, but is hard to get and toxic to people. Ruby Reef works in early cases, but may not work in severe cases like this.

Two more of the tiny guys died (total 3) but one who I thought was a goner has suddenly improved ! So looks like 4 might make it, if I can figure out how to medicate them properly

7 clowns
4 grammas
1 flame angel
6 feather dusters (1 was d.o.a. , the rest of these are doing well, in a separate cycled fusion 15 qt tank)
4 duster clusters - also doing well in same fusion 15

I had 4 cycled qt tanks setup & waiting - 2 were for fish, 2 for inverts (no copper)
all in opposite corners of my qt room, separate room from display tank

this worked really well for the first round of qt - but then I was really lucky and got no diseased fish. everything was really healthy, vigorous and ate well from day 1.

this round of qt everything I got was beat up, stressed, and emaciated. Sunken bellies, mouth wound, torn fins, etc. couldn’t get anything to eat at first. (Ordered from same vendor)

Clownfish finally ate freshly hatched bbs - but no one else would. I thought everything was going to die - tried every frozen food known to man, flake with selcon, finally got them eating t.d.o. pellets soaked in the fauna marine energizer - who knew.

the flame angel arrived in good condition - not beat up or emaciated - he was perfect and I stupidly put him in with one of the grammas (didn’t know a gramma would fight with an angel) Gramma attacked him, angel gave a beat down. Couldn’t get them apart. Angel is still gorgeous and perfect, gramma is now an even worse mess than I started with.

Sorry for your loss and hopes that you are doing well. As for fish, agree with Jay on brook and he gave you the remedy

Grammas are said to be very aggressive. I’ve never had one . Which is surprising knowing I’ve had tanks for over 20 years and have had almost every fish at least once .

I’ll never keep any damsel in ever again .
And anthias .. never had any luck with them .

Cardinals amd chrommis … they never last

I've had one gramma in every tank I've had and they were never aggressive to other fish. These four are complete jerks. When drip acclimating even clamped onto the rim of my net and wouldn't let go.

Planning to nurse them back to health and give away.

Are they your favourite fish ?

Mine is only agressive if territory challenged.
Then it starts with “mouth dropping”
If the invader does not yield, will charge them.
That’s as far as it’s gone in my DT.
But 4 with clowns…..hoping that’s big water in your DT.

Funny I have 7 Springer damsels and 7 lemon damsels in my DT and the lemons are my favorite fish.

Also have one gramma in the DT and he is completely peaceful but hides most of the time.

I had 2 springerii damsels to consume red flatworms

I think my pink tail trigger ate them .
Along with the spotted mandarin

Wish he would have ate the 2 a hole clownfish I call jaws and Dracula

It's a 6-ft 120 gallon shallow Reef from Innovative Marine. "Mr Saltwater Tank" put multiple clowns in his newby build on YouTube and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I made the aquascape with a ton of caves and hidey-holes.

Previous to this whole nightmare Gramma's were my favorite. They are so colorful and beautiful, and (PREVIOUSLY - peaceful with other community fish). I just wish the one in my DT didn't hide so much. Hardly ever see him

Hope I can find a local reefer or lfs to adopt these 4 once I get them healthy again

That’s good size water.
Harems, yup, People do this, but I’m thinking 30, not 7Can be problematic and doesnt always end well IME, but there’s exceptions to everything.
Large numbers can work because they can spread the aggression out, simply, there’s too many to target 1 individual.

Great that they are small, this is perfect as we know, all are juvenile’s, and thus male, so having two female is not a risk.

Two females will fight agreesively,

But with 7, in large water, they can be excessively chased.
But again, some things just work for some and not others.

I believe if I remember correctly .
Aggressive or bullying others . Or hiding …
Can’t remember but . Similar to ever other fish .
They are all different and not always the same as the previous one .

My next tank … or possibly even this one .
I want fish only
Need to find someone that wants Xenia and palys …

Yes thank you vetteguy53081 , just to double check - planning to remove copper with a big water change & carbon and then start rally pro today correct?

That's on the baby clownfish tank.

Any advice on the grammas & flame angel would also be appreciated - still not sure if those have brook also
