Baby Fish ID

Yeah it looks a lot like that or a gambusia. Still a mystery as to how it got into the tank if it is a live bearer. :face-with-tears-of-joy:
People used mollies and guppies to cycle tanks back on the day. I've seen the mollies survive and make babies. Great algae pickers. I've heard the same about guppies but never witnessed it. Maybe "contamination " from a fish store. Or it could be a female mud minnow. Killi family. Good flounder bait. Hope it makes it. It's cool either way. I've done this 40 years and never just had a fish appear.

So Lagniappe is thriving. I was finally able to get another image today that really shows the color and markings. It's still the smallest guy in the tank at a little over an inch long, but is getting close in size to the forktail blenny (also a juvenile). Overall it's a greenish/gold color. The tail is pretty yellow, the pectoral fins are almost transparent, the pelvic/anal fins are orange with black tips, and the dorsal fins is orange and bluish/purple with black tips. Eyes are gold rimmed in black.

Still can't find a photo that's exact out there -- if anyone else has luck LMK. But whatever it is, it's pretty cute. Not bad for an unexpected permanent tank-guest.

I think that is my new favorite fish! Whatever it is. I'll bet it will do great. Best hitchhiker award. Lol

I'm pretty sure it's a mummichog. Also known as a mud minnow, but a type of brackish killifish. I have collected adults of these guys as well as having eggs come in on macro algae I brought home. I've seen other people get macro with these eggs on them too.

Actually, the male here has some of the same coloration as my little guy. I know they're in the same family, but it was id'd as a rainwater killifish. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2699134
