I had this torch coral above where this small is now. It fell down so I relocated it closer to where it fell and noticed this baby underneath where it was. I know they grow new heads on colony but do the also drop new corals?

If it is dropping new heads how many do they usually drop?

I know plate corals will reproduce by spitting new plates if that is the right way to say it

I've never seen a torch "drop" heads but I've seen them have polyp bail out when the coral is upset or dying. Your looks happy and healthy so not sure

Coral is very healthy it looks like a small colony forming it’s definitely grown in the past couple weeks since I first noticed it

I have seen polyp bailout on other ones also yes usually unhealthy or high current this torch has shown no sign of bailout and the bailouts always die off this one is growing

Your torch probably spawned, it's rare but it does happen. If so, you may find them popping up all over your tank. A while back I had the start of what I thought was a majano anemone infestation, about a couple dozen of these tiny purple and green things all over my rocks, I panicked and went on a killing spree with kalk paste. Fast forward a few months and I find more on the back of my rockwork. But now they are much bigger and I can see they are 100% baby torches, I have at least 6 that I can see. I'm leaving them live for now but am worried about what kind of trouble they are going to cause. They are almost impossible to remove without killing because they are sprouting out of holes deep in my rocks, I can't see the bases. And they are all on rocks at the base of my rockwork.

The following thread has a great picture of what it looks like when a torch spawns. My torch did the same thing but I didn't know what it was at the time. Also in that thread is a guy that had to replace all of his rockwork because the baby torches were stinging and killing things which is what has me worried.

I have the same thing with my touch. Coincidently it looks just like yours in the photo. I am actually covering them with puddy as they are encroaching on my sps. It is a shame but I can’t let them grow to a good size prior to removing them as they are buried in the base rock. I find new babies all the time
