Baby Trochus?

Last week I was talking to my LPS about the amount of Trochus snails in their display tank from them breeding. Wishing mine would do the same I spotted these last night. Looking in with a torch this morning they are everywhere.

Tried to take a photo this morning, but limited success. Can anyone ID these critters amongst my GHA from this poor photo?

I've had them breed in my tanks multiple times, but only a dozen or two survive. You're a lucky person if that many are surviving!

They are very small, waiting to see if they get any bigger before taking one out. They are white but the bigger ones do have some banded markings.

Not sure how many will survive if any.

Look like keyhole limpets to me.. do they have little holes in the top of the shell?

Now that I have seen a picture of the limpets I think that might be what they are. I'll have a look for the keyhole tonight and see if I can take a better picture.

I've read these can be bad for SPS?

I had trochus breed in my tank recently. I have about 100 or so babies survive in my tank. I also threw away about 40-50 trochus when they appeared in my sump. I didn’t know they were trochus then. They are getting big quick in my tank.



from your pics, it doesn’t look like trochus to me.

An easy way to tell the difference would be if the shell is spiralled... if it is, then probably trochus. If conical and not swirled, probably a limpet
