posted some pics of my clown trigger a month or so ago. No one was really able to point me in the right direction. It has gotten worse, so I'm going to try again. The trigger has an area of spots behind his eye, and now surrounding his eye. Both eyes have recently fogged over. He is still very active and eats like he did before. The spots behind his eye have been there for over a month. The spots around the eye are new today. These spots don't look like ich. No other fish in the tank is sick in any way. Any ideas?

I remember that thread. This does not look like ick at this point. It's more reminiscent of HLLE. No other symptoms from him? Does it go away and come back? Heavy breathing, flashing, scratching? What does his diet consist of?

^^^ Agree that it looks somewhat like HLLE. Are you running activated carbon? If so, what kind/brand?

No other symptoms. gets along with his long term tank mates. Eats a variety of meaty foods. (Scrimp, silversides, clam meat, etc) that I buy from an Asian food store. Also loves to mow down a nori sheet if he can keep the naso away long enough.

I have a brs dual reactor. Haven't been running it since the water has been clear and the reactor is a pain to keep unclogged. When I ran it, it was brs special grade bituminous

Reason I asked is that activated carbon has been implicated as a cause for HLLE. If you aren't running it, then there's no need to do so to try to solve this particular problem.

If indeed this is the beginning of HLLE, running activated carbon (especially a "dustier" type like bituminous) could exacerbate the problem.

Any changes to the fish's behavior or eating habits? Was it quarantined prior to introduction to the DT (if so, how)?

He's been in this tank for over a year. No changes to behavior. Eats good.

Could be HLLE, but that doesn't explain the foggy eyes. So I'm wondering if a lingering infection could also be in play here. So, in addition to taking your carbon offline I would also start soaking his food with a vitamin supplement (exs. Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem). Also check for stray voltage in your tank (another theory regarding HLLE.)

dually noted on the vitamins. Would stray voltage reach the tank from the sump? The only wires entering my system is the heater and skimmer.

Yes, as it travels thru the water. So it could travel thru your return.

I swear when I first saw the pics of the fish's eye, the first thought that entered my head was "flukes". If I were the OP, I would be tempted to give that trigger a FW dip just to be sure. More info in the links below.

Yup. I was focused on the little marks behind them. I see it now though. FW dip would be a fast and easy way to confirm/rule out flukes for sure.

After reading about flukes, and watching the trigger, I notice him yawning. Might be on to something here folks. Should I treat the entire tank? My thought is if one has them, could they all??
