If you don't believe, don't use it. It's simple.

I need to update on the cyano "not" being effected by peroxide in my tank
according to this guy it should be growing like a weed in peroxide.

disclaimer:
i only bomb dinos with peroxide. cyano dying is just a casualty of war.

This is day 7 of peroxide. Dosing twice a day 1 ml per 10g total water volume. I vacuumed the sand 5 days ago. I did not get all cyano but where I removed it, it is not coming back. There are a few spots i need to vacuum tomorrow.

In the past I would vacuum and the cyano would be back in 2 to 3 days and just keep getting worse.

Before and after pics.

you reversed the befores and afters. we all know peroxide does nothing...

cyano eats peroxide like a fat chick.... well... ill just leave it at that.

btw... skimmers are for newbs.
- had to put that in there :P

Peroxide has absolutely no effect on cyano in an aquarium, it's been proven over and over and over . Let's beat this dead horse to mush??
Todd, the appearance of trolls means you are on the right track! Keep it up man! You have all of our collective support!

Agreed

You will never, ever, ever find someone critiquing a peroxide method who links up a thread of their own with a mere ten tanks on the line getting better results. Always safe zone critique

The total claim is just that your methods don't work or that you are killing critical nontarget bacteria/yet the statements are made in multi page documentation threads showing not those claims.

Not all reef tanks can cure cyano from multiple sustainment sources by peroxide alone. Nobody has claimed that I can see

Have seen people get despondent after peroxide didn't work on any number of invaders, to me it's safe to try and cures vary but outpace noncures.
It's handy to try, and we know it won't recycle your tank or mini cycle to try->the cure is not the certainty, the certainty is that your biosystem adjusts for lots of things and peroxide is a natural inclusion in lesser amnts (better than foreign altogether) and it's a non event microbially the whole time (to filter bacteria/annamox/system support bac) as measured by test kits people make thousand dollar decisions with every day (salifert, Red Sea, Hanna et al)

when this guy speaks. he is one of the few i listen to.

I feel this thread is conclusive
Cyanobacteria will not win the war over peroxide (even in my own testing)
I am still feeding 4 times a week. Using reef chilli 2 times a week and Fuel AAs 2 times a week. I micro bubble and skim. I do 2, 10g water changes a week. I have been on this schedule for at least 7 months.

I am not changing anything accept dosing peroxide.

I will dose peroxide for another 7 days and then stop. I want to see if cyano comes back.

You may be on permenant peroxide prescription with that cyano in a bottle your using...[emoji6]

Well if or when it comes back, then I will stop using Fuel go back on a 2 week peroxide dosing schedule. Then I will stop and see if or when it comes back.

I want to know for myself if Fuel is the problem.

Yeah im just pickin at you. Everyones tank is different. Fortunately i have two tanks an only dosed one.

I know you're only kidding, well kinda. It's not the first time I've heard it and read it. I just want to know if that's the issue in my tank.
Does peroxide get rid of all cyano and if there is no cyano......then does Fuel feed it or cause it?

My tank is basically set for about a year. I will only introduce one or two more sps frags from Diesel's tank, so now is the time to do my own experimenting.

Fab I will get back with you as soon as I can
twilliard,
Take your time. I know you are hustling to get your research done while keeping up a lot of dialog on this project.

I don't want to derail you. I would like you and your partners to consider my concept of a more adaptive dosing scheme, but I realise it may be need to be treated as an extension or a refinement of your mainline method.

This is quite a contrarian view, given the experimental thrust of this thread and the multiple instances of evidence having been reported that support its working hypothesis that H2O2 does provide a useful degree of lethality on cyanobacteria.

@Tehreefer,
I, for one, am interested in what your experience is that leads you to your strongly stated position. Negative results are important to a project like this as well as positive results.

Perhaps you would be so generous of your time and knowlege as to share them with us in sufficient detail to be credible and informative.

@Tehreefer I myself would love to see the research papers along with proof of whats being treated is it Cyano, Dinos, or spirulina. As this study has shown that all three can look similar in for texture and color, unless you have a clear picture of the cells thier selves it can be difficult to determine the difference. Even for a paid biologist this task can be difficult, this thread has shown proof of all of this first hand and documented. It has also shown that every tank is different in its own little ecosystem and that every treatment will act different in most cases, so time volume and effects will vary. Its the responsibility of the individual to monitor and maintain these little ecosystem and to adjust accordingly.
This experiment has been fun for me and has shown beautiful success on my tank, @twilliard thank you sir for letting me participate in this and will be updating everyone with pictures tomorrow.

One of the outstanding attributes of H2O2 as a dosing agent is that it is readily and abundantly available in drug stores and it is very inexpensive. Unfortunately pretty much all of the other cocktails we dose or douse our tanks with share neither of these attributes.

both fuel and acro power give my tank cyano. happens everytime.

just sharing my experience

Do you know why? Do you still dose them? What do or have you done about their effects?

i couldnt give you any pointers to why. Just that i can always replicate a cyano outbreak within 24 hours of dosing AA.

what did i do with the outbreak? i stopped dosing. cyano usually goes away on it's own.
