Back in again. 75g sps build thread

Managed to suck up my hammer coral doing a water change. Damaged half of it, needless to say I am not to happy. Look down at the waste water bucket for 2 seconds and bam syphon hose got it. It was healthy so it should bounce back for my clumsiness.

Ugh. Hoping for a quick recovery for him.

Thanks, me too. Going to give it a little extra TCL. I was cursing when I looking into the water bucket and saw a bunch of polyp tissue that got suck off floating in the water.

Pics of the 3 new acropora and the new chalice as promised. Also one of the damaged hammer coral, its looking better today. And one of my clown pair for fun and because they are photo hogs.

My EVS 2 part and Neo Nitro was delivered yesterday. Going to start dosing no3 to bring it up. I was thinking on starting low to just get it detectable on Red Sea Pro test kit and see how it goes. Any tips from those that dose no3?

Last night I dosed 34ml of Neo Nitro and now have a detectable 1 ppm No3 in my reef tank! Yea! I am goimg to test again later today to see how fast my reef is consuming the No3. My goal is to keep a stable detectable 1-3 ppm.
My hammer coral is looking a lot better and is going to make a full recovery.

24hrs later my reef consumed 1 ppm of no3! Maybe I should remove my chaeto and just go cryptic fuge. Thoughts on this to keep no3 from being used up so fast, my fuge is small so it may be enough.

Tank has been doing well. Dosing 1ml of alk and cal everyother day to maintain stability. I have stopped no3 dosing because it was speedimg up green film algae growth. So no3 is back to undetectable but I know no3 is there due to coral and algae growth. I may dose no3 again once the tank matures more and there is more coral.

Hello R2R, I hope everyones reef is doing well. I did a short video of my reef last night so I figured I would share it with you. A few small updates to report. I lost 1 chromis that was getting thin and last night was struggling. I moved it to the QT tank but it did not last the night. I also made a few new purchases for the reef. 2 new coral frags 1 acan and forest fire digi. 2 100w heaters for the QT tank and water mixing. Lastly but most certainly not least a Hanna Alk checker! Finally no more crappy hard to read color changing alk kits just a solid easy to read digital number. Why can't anyone make a good liquid alk test? Mag and cal tests are easy to see the color change but alk sucks to judge.

The forest fire and acan I picked up last week, looking good. Also my 10g QT tank nearly ready, just needs a lid for fish and some Reef Bars for corals. Added 2 more sps corals a few days ago as well, bought in rough shape, pics soon.

Hanna Alk Checker!! So easy to use love it. Alk tested at 7.5 last night. Now to get back into the weekly testing and dial in my daily alk and cal usage for dosing 2 part.

I probably should look at that, Kh is mostly what I test but I am lazy! ;)
Its so worth it and I have only had it for 24 hours. Red Sea never gave me a solid result with the color change. Plus the easier things are to do the more likely we are to do them water testing included.

... call that coraline?! ;)
Looking good. :)

Nice. I had the plating and branching kind years ago when I had some nice Tonga and Kalini live rock, it was pretty cool. This rock has only produced encrusting coraline but I have several colors. Pink, purple, orange, brown and had some red for a little while early on.

Added 2 more new frags from a LFS Aqua SD order. I will get some pics up soon along with the 2 others I need to share still. Yesterday I got a Tiger Cucumber to add to my clean up crew, keep that sand bed all clean, found it cleaning my front glass last night. This tank is still very young and I am impressed at how well it is progressing. Corals do very well and I have not lost a single one even improved color on some. Still though its not at 100%, something is missing that is keeping some of my sps from coloring back up. Lates water test.

OMG, Holy Crap! I just got a really nice mini Aussie acro colony for a killer deal, seriously killer deal. And a white damsel which is in QT for the next few weeks.

Thanks and some other lucky reefs will also get some of it. Plan is to frag it up, recover some money and share it with others. While I got a great deal on it it still was over my coral budget. No I have not tested any trace elements. I dose B Ionic 2 part which had some trace elements in it but no idea if its enough. I guess getting the Coral Color tests from Red Sea might not be a bad idea. In the past I saw no improvement from dosing color related trace elements.

Man your corals polyps look nicely extended. Keep it up! I wish I was close to aquasd. They used to be my go to place but after the indo issues I wasn’t seeing anything there. Looks like they are slowly starting to sell acros again from Aussie so hopefully they keep going with that.
