Hello
Had my last reef tank over 10 years ago. Seems like lots has changed. Wish i had pics of my old tanks 55 and 30 mixed reefs.

My favorite fish was a blue hippo tang that was very personable, he liked his dorsal fins stroked. I think inverts are the coolest part of the reef tank ecosystem.

I first decided to get back into hobby last year. I purchased a 150g cube tank with corner overflow and metal frame stand. But i wanted to do some home improvements before setting up the tank. With that out of the way I'll get into my build thread in the future.

I'm a big DIY kinda guy on everything from auto repairs, kitchen remodels, even vacation planning so this new tank should be loads of fun. I've been following this forum and learning whats new from all of you great people and cant wait to share my adventure with you.

Thanks R2R

Welcome to R2R!

Here's a pic from one of my favorite articles on reefkeeping, applicable to new hobbyists and old as well:

The nitrogen cycle is only the startup of a SW tank cycle. The next 6-12 months is a maturing phase, and it's typically in this time frame where algae outbreaks occur and things can sort of roller-coaster, and if you stock the tank up too quickly, you might see corals randomly dying & fish getting sick, etc...hobbyists can very easily fall into the trap of chasing problems = making more problems => giving up and selling everything off. We don't want that to happen to anyone!

Long-term stability and balance are the keys, and you just can't shortcut the process significantly. That's always the #1 thing to keep in mind!
