Back into the Hobby!

Welcome to R2R

Hey All,

I was completely obsessed with the hobby from 2000 till 2008. But had 3 kids and had to step away. But I'm back with a little 13gallon nano that used to be my frag tank. I just set it up and used some of the old rock I've kept in my garage, along with a few small pieces of live rock from the LFS. Hopefully Corraline algae will spread.

Back before youtube - I ran a site called reefvideos.com, and would film people with cool tanks in Toronto and edit/post them there. Hello to anyone who remembers me!

I notice lots of changes in the hobby. Ideas, equipment, prices! Equipment is so slick now. My new pump and lights from AI have an elegant interface.

Old man rant:
Coral prices are crazy! I bought a football sized Deresa clam for $80 in 2004. The LFS has tiny 3" clams for $300! and frags cost as much as full colonies did.
And all the zoanthids/acans have marketing departments and fancy names. Psycho Cookie Monster Orange Soda for $xx/polyp.

I'm excited to see my tank cycle and mature, add livestock and to share my excitement with my kids.

Chris

Hi Chris and Welcome Back! Glad you joined. Yes everything everywhere has gotten more expensive. I just plan out my purchases more to compensate.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
