Hey guys, just thought I'd swing by and introduce myself. My name is Neil and I've been a reef addict for over ten years *applause*.

Was heavily into it just before my son was born 7 years ago - diving, three tanks, photo contest winner, tank of the month, writing for a UK magazine and then life got in the way...!

So, small aquarium setup at the moment but work means I'm taking an active role in "selling" Internet of Things to people who don't "get" IT and it's made me think:

Automation, IoT, apps, big data there must be so much at our fingertips that I'm not aware of. So I'm looking to make some friends, get back on the horse and see what's going on around tech and monitoring of our aquaria.

Any hints and tips on who to look to for inspiration? Apex controllers, Seneye web servers, full app control of aquariums, Triton etc?? Don't need to be spoon-fed but don't want to learn from those that have ideas and want to make it happen.

Cheers,
MrBlueFox

IMO, Apex seems to be on the forefront for automation and IoT. Very configurable to other brands of hardware, and they have their own kits for monitoring flow and ATO. Also just announced they have auto measuring of alk coming, so you can precisely dose with their dosers. Certainly worth geeking out about.

There are other competent controllers, if you look on the big online marine sellers they have them with specs and reviews.

There is a big thread on here about using raspberry-pi if that is more your style.

Welcome and have fun with all the new gadgets available!

Welcome Neil ! ! And yes there is a TON of automated things you can do with your reef now :-)

Welcome home.

You will love it here.

I’m not big on smart stuff but that’s more ignorance and no money than anything! :D
