Everyone probably knows this, but if your water changes involve pumping water up a floor, don't put the hose in your tank and walk away. Any water left in the hose from the previous water change will cause a back siphon. I have a value on the return side of the pump, but forgot to shut it off. Luckily, I only dumped 4 - 5 gallons on the basement floor before I caught it. It could have been very a big mess.
