Planning placement for my vortechs in my 180g. Still no water but I figured I would try to place them.

So here is the plan 4 mp40s
Aquascape 3 large rocks forms
There are 2 smaller rocks in front they might move.

Ideas on placement:
A - all four across the top - red in photo
B - 2 on left and 2 on right of center rock. 2 high and 2 low - yellow in the photo
C - 2 lower and on each side of center rock and 2 higher 1 on each side of other rocks - blue in photo

thats alot of vortechs! i would go with choice A
If i wasnt happy with that, i would leave the two on the center red dots and try moving the outside two to the sides of the tank.

what mode would you run with this placement?

I was thinking reef crest for all 4 synced together.

Or if I went with an option of 2 near the bottom I was going to try reef crest on top ones and nutrient transport on bottom 2

Id go with C

And reef crest for the top nutrient for the bottom.

Why are you wanting to have them only on the back wall ? Why not 2 on the upper sides and 2 mid way down on the back wall? Wouldn't that give you more of a chaotic flow ?
And are you depending on the movement of the return pumps to Help with surface movement?

I will have maybe 75x turn over with the 4 vortechs. I want them all on back to blend in and be invisable. Background hides them well. Plus with them behind the tank the noise will be muffled.

My returns split to each side then split again. So I have 4 directable loc line that are on the sides and point in. Not sure what kinda flow I will get from returns but it should help.

You may want to put one on each end up high and two on the back center like the middle reddots. This is how ecotech reccomends they be placed to maximize the benefits of the modes and to take advantage of wide flow pattern. To low to the bottom like in a couple of your schematics will be blowing sand all over the place. A well thought out design renders side mounted vortech virtually invisible and they are not that loud, you really want to have one on each side where they are directly across from eachother up as high as you can get them without making a tornado down to the powerhead.

I thought about this idea as well. But my tank has corner overflows and adding the vortech to the side will take away even more side viewing. Also I belive it will be too close to my rocks and corals if on the sides. I thought maybe on back the water would reflect off front glass and hit rocks front on.

The tank will be bare bottom so no problem with sand blowing

Let me know how it goes. I'm gonna get at least 2 and put on my back too. But I have a 36" wide tank and cls currently
