Looking to invest in a battery backup and it seems like most don’t support Jebao. Anyone know any that for sure do? Or have a simple DIY? Thanks in advance.

Apc ups. Depending on the size, they're either 12v or 24v. Easily expandable with car batteries for exponentially increased run time. My 1500vac unit runs the entire tank for almost 20 hours, that's running through entire light cycle(3 hydra64s@ 100% peak). Would last almost double without lights.

Why not use a battery backup with a standard 110 outlet?
I’ve heard battery backups for computers don’t last as long? Do you have a brand/model that you’d recommend?

The Icecap v3 battery backup *might* work (emphasis on "might"), because it does work for Maxspect and Red Sea gyres via the 24v connector.

Going AC to DC vs straight DC you do lose efficiency. How long do you need it to run? LiPo 120 UPS will run a power head a long time depending on size of power head 12+ hours. If you’re planning on being out longer than that, wire a dedicated 5-15r outlet next to the aquarium and the other end out side. Then pick up basic sine 2kva generator and keep a few gallons of petrol handy.

All you would need.

This is the one I have. They typically don't run very long. I bought mine used for 100$ with dead batteries. Instead of replacing with lawn mower sized batteries, I then connected 4 agm car batteries(24v is 2x2 in series. properly fused,of course)and it run long time.. I like it because it catches every flicker in the electricity, the tank doesn't even flinch

I even plug the tv/lights in with the tank to watch weather/news and figure out if I need to get the generator ready

This and the aforementioned generator. All in you’re out for under 800 dollars.
Yea, I have a generator for longer power outages. Looking for something that can run for 6 hours or so until I know a generator will be needed.

So you use this one?

Yeah. I have it set up to run everything for 15 minutes then run only the return pump after 15 minutes. Return takes way more watts than wave maker and it will run it at just shy of 4 hours.

So wave maker will run about 4 hours?

I just got the unit you recommended. How exactly did you set it up to run everything for 15 mins, and then only dedicated items after? Can that be done through this unit? Can you set each outlet individually? @The_Paradox

There are a couple ways you can do it depending on environment.

1. Easiest way, will not delay non-critical shutdowns, is to plug critical items into Surge+Battery plugs. Then everything else gets plugged into Surge plugs.

2. They have free software called PowerPanel.

3. I have my tank automated by applehome with power events triggered by scenes. The same can be done with google/Alexa. No matter what the OS this method requires you to buy a smart plug strip. Usually 20-40 dollars. This has saved me on several occasions. You never realize how much you wish you could voice control an aquarium until you’re across the room and realize you forgot to shut a pump off. That and reaching under stands to unplug things is for animals and savages.

Ive had a backup setup for years with one of those boards. The circuit is sound and is about the same from the 'big boys'.
Maybe I'll give it a try on less critical circuits(fans or something). How much of a load do you run through it? Looks like a 10 or 15a relay(?) The downside of my set up is that after about 20 hours, the apc will shut down due to low voltage. When that happens, you can still measure 11 point something volts on batteries. I would like to be able to run those batteries into the dirt, if I had to, to save the tank. Rather than it trying to protect the batteries from over discharge. Not much of a issue, as 20hrs is plenty time to drag out generator. But always thinking of how to back up the back up
