I live in an apartment and rarely suffer any power outages but it does happen, sometime for maintenance or the occasional accident. Usually they are very short but the last one lasted a couple of hours.

I won't have room in the stand for any battery backups or have the ability to have any generators.

Is it worth to run a battery operated air pump in the display for such relative short outages or are there any better solutions?

if you have room around the tank, you could always use a battery as backup.
but I used an Air pump couple of times for quarantine tank, with like water change every other day and it worked fine for me.
so you could live with that, but I think you'd need at least 2 of 'em if your tank is big and you have bigger life stock.

Thanks for replies. It'll be a 60g with sump. So not humongous.

A battery backup would be great I realize that. I will see what I will have room for. I'm going to run Reef-Pi and I'll see what support that will have for situations like this when the time comes to build it.

Check out some of the hurricane threads on here. Pretty darned smart setups.
