Hi all,

My 40 gallon tank is currently setup with just a surge protector. I’d like to have a little more peace of mind on stormy nights and was wondering what backup power supplies everyone’s using, and what their recommendations are?

I work from home, and in the 4.5 years I’ve lived at my current house, I think I may have lost power once or twice for less than an hour? So it’s not a common occurrence, but I’d like to be prepared for the day I do lose power for an extended period.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Most people with either have a generator or some kind of battery backup. depending on what pumps you have they make certain backups for them specifically. Or another option would be to get an Inverter and have that connected to a car battery and then you could plug in whatever you wanted

Thanks glassmunky, I’ll look into generators. I’ve seen a lot of inverters and usb power supplies online. Wasn’t sure what the best option was

I have this....for my 40B and the Nephews new 13.5 EVo...

We also have a generator, because Florida...

My wifes law firm uses these(larger ones of course) for server backups also.

I would consider an mp40 or mp10 powerhead with its standard battery backup.

Thanks! Not sure if you’ve tested it out, how long does this supply power?

A few hours...just to keep it going till you figure out how to get Power...a generator is highly recommended.

Thanks! I’ll probably get the USP for now and start researching which generator to go with. It’s something we’ve been meaning to get, but haven’t come across an event that’s really forced our hand (thankfully). Crazy how expensive they are
