What does everyone use for backup power when there is a power outage? I'm upgrading my tank and with the upgrade I want to have something solid in case the power goes out for a few hours.

If you have vortec pumps I'd suggest EcoTech marine back up battery. It's worked flawlessly for me a few times, very pleased.

The best way is with the DC powerheads and DC pumps that can be connected directly to a battery like EcoTech Marine Vortech battery backup or the IceCAP battery backup. They will last the longest.

Saying that, I don't use those, because, reasons.

I use this as my last resort for only powerheads and return (all DC): APC 1500VA UPS Battery Backup. It lasts about 4-6hrs depending on how high I turn the pumps. 2x powerheads and 1x DC return at 20% nets me around 6hrs.

Aside from that, I just got a Tesla whole-house battery because I don't want to loose my $5k investment "again."

I use a harbor freight generator for the tank, fridge, TV, some lights, a fan of needed or a heater. I think it's 8500w or close to it. I've used it many times over the years and change the oil religiously, it has never let me down. I had a plug put on the side of the house so I didn't need to run extension cords. They go on sale often

2000w generator on my work truck. Enough for the heaters, pumps, and phone charger.
