Hey guys

this is the state of my little Red Sea max nano at the moment . I know the most important part of info is my params but I don’t have a test kit and I will take a sample to the lfs within the next few days. Judging from the pics. Any idea on what break out it is? I was told to keep lighting to a minimum. Luckily it’s a new tank so there aren’t many fish in there

It’s been running for 3 months now. I cycled with dry rock and sand

Regards

It could be bacteria bloom or phytoplankton bloom.

You should start a tank thread, it would assist me with not asking unnecessary questions. A tank thread puts pertinent information in one place to help others to help you.

With a new tank, I don’t need to know your parameters near as much as your method and history.

A UV sterilizer would clean up both bacteria and phyto blooms. However, you would be treating the symptons and not the cause.

Sorry for the rough start on the tank. Keep the water oxygenated (airstone or aim return nozzle at surface). UV will help but as mentioned it is treating the symptoms. Invest in a good test kit.

bacteria bloom, these is very normal and its best just to let the tank settle. I went through this a 3 times during the process but its totally normal and will clear up.

How much natural sunlight does your tank get? It looks like that window may actually be the issue I only just noticed that even with low nutrients and regular testing it's a pain to have a tank that gets sunlight from a window. My first tank looked like yours even after extensive testing, UV, and an RO system. The problem the window lighting my tank causing it to heat up and PAR values to be waaay to high.
