My tank was doing fine and all the sudden I looked, the entire tank and sump was cloudy. My tank was full of culerpas. Some all the sudden turned pale so I grabbed them out and I also found a handful of it literately melted.

I was panic and quickly changed 10% water. What else I need to do?

Oxygen, try and agitate the water surface more and add a air pump if possible, bacteria bloom will consume oxygen fast

Have you checked parameters make sure nothing changed, the bloom could be caused from culerpas dying excessive waste will knock your tank out of balance the good bacteria can't keep up with the bad if your not running carbon already you might want to for a couple day

I increased from 77 to 78 degree in temp. Already running carbon, it’s been 18 days old carbon. Should i add new ones?

Googled it and found UV helps too. So I guess I will wait for a couple of days first and see.

I’ve will definitely help. It sure the size of you tank but I used the green machine richter from Petco and cleared it up great.

I believe this is what happens when the caulerpa goes ‘sexual’ which can happen. I kept it for a very short while until I read up on this and decided to remove it ‘just in case’

You may need to keep an eye on nutrient levels as these may have been released into the system so water changes could be a very good idea.

Just want to post that the tank was 99% cleared up overnight. Nitrate, phosphate, ph and ammonia were tested, everything seems ok by my “trusty” API kits.

It seems there’s still a slight cloudiness to the water, will be there another bloom follow after that?

thanks again guys

May just keep clearing. It would be good to keep the Uv ready for use. I am mine in storage ready to go when needed. But usually when clears it stays clear.
