Bacteria bottle

Hi everyone I have just bought a bottle of fritz 460 zyme, Has anyone used this as I replaced Dr tims as it did nothing in my tank.

Improve water quality and breakdown organic waste.

I think it's 'degrading' chemical used for help in breakdown of waste in aquarium. I have never used chemicals to clean my aquriam just a sand vac and good old hands on maintenance

Bottle pictured, sorry easier to say bottled chemicals instead of organic Heterotrophs which are a group of microorganisms (yeast, moulds & bacteria) that use organic carbon as food (as opposed to autotrophs like algae that use sunlight) which will open up a can of worms.... organic forms vary , i will use maybe bottled 'substance' or bottled 'bacteria' in future, I'm unsure of what it will do in your aquarium

Still not sure on what you mean? The bottle contains heterotrophic bacteria that is the most common bacteria in mature reef aquaria.

In general, dosing bottled bacteria isn’t exactly a proven cure for anything. You would be hard pressed to find scientific data showing it does anything different in your aquarium than what your aquarium bacteria are already doing.

So, you are unlikely to see any thing happen with this other product.

Your goal definition is a little vague. How will you measure water quality improvement and the breakdown of organic waste? I ask because there might be other options to try in place of bottled bacteria.

Bottled bacteria does have its uses and it’s backed up by several articles, the reason the op may have to do it it will be mainly because he’s/hers not using the existing bacteria to the full potential.

Are the articles reporting on tests of specific bottled bacteria products? Which products?

I used to use seachem bacteria (stability and pristine) but every now and again I get a death in my tank. Could be coincidence but I just changed brands. Now I use Fluval Biological Enhancer and Fritz 460 zyme after every water change or when adding new stock.

I have been using PNS probio a natural bacteria supplement for like 5 months. My tank is pristine now and my filter sock stays clean a week or longer. This stuff just works.

I strongly agree that the recent wave of bottled bacteria products are NOT the snake oil we had 15 years ago. I've had great luck with Dr Tim's waste away and refresh. I've never tried this fritz product or the PNS, but I would bet that they are all leagues better than the old bottled bacteria, which was a joke back in the day.

I did a huge study few years back and it showed most all products I tested worked one way or the other.
Top 3 were true nitrifying bacteria while I assume remainder were sludge removers hetrotrophic bacterial.
