Curious if anybody out there uses any bacteria when setting up a qt. I usually use air driven sponge filter that has been in my sump for a few weeks.
Any benefits to using a culture- if so, which?

I have used bacteria in a bottle products to quick cycle a QT and I've used a seeded sponge filter. Both have worked well for me... although I've noticed that with a seeded sponge from the sump I had less problems with ammonia and frequent water cahnges. The longer the sponge has been in the sump the more bacteria has colonized on it and the better it will eliminate ammonia for you.

Sometimes I run out of "sump seeded sponges", so I have to use some Seachem Stability to seed a new sponge.
