For the last two night's I've gone to bed with my water crystal clear, only to wake up to it being cloudy. Yesterday I also did a W/C due to that but something happened, everything went poorly and something (still not sure what) caused my tank to get exceedingly angry.

Today the corals look quite a bit better, but I woke up to a semi-cloudy tank again after it being perfectly clear the night before.

My question is, should I be doing water changed when this happens to help with that or is this something I need to just wait out? I've had tanks on and off for 15'ish years but I don't recall having this issue before.

Fish are happy and swimming fine, corals are far more inflated and open than they were after the "incident" but still not recovered. Nor would I expect them to be after how angry they got yesterday.

I just dont want to do something, or not do something, and make the situation worse.

Thanks!

The top seems to lack flow to the overflow
What filtration are you using?
What are you utilizing for water movement?
What is ammonia-nitrate level and what test kits are you using to test?

It's overflowing pretty good, It's an AIO so it doesn't have a choice but to go into the overflow.

I have the IM return pump set to 1.7 out of 2.0, max is roughly 350gph I believe.
I also have a Vortech MP10 on the left side, set to about 20% on lagoon reef crest

Nitrate was 10 yesterday on API (ordering a Hanna shortly, I hate color matching) when I did a test. I actually don't have an ammonia test, one I apparently forgot to get. I'll have to order that too.

Yesterday after my 10% change and everything went downhill, I did another 25% change later in the night. Water was perfectly clear when the lights went out. Woke up to this cloudiness.

I'm just afraid doing all these changes is causing it to bloom again. I have been doing 10% changes almost daily for a few days, sometimes a couple times to try and bring PO4 down a bit while the GFO and such gets working. I think I found the source of the PO4 spikes. I had dying chaeto full of detritus and I was overfeeding. It stopped spiking after I removed the chaeto and stopped the frozen foods.

Tank specs yesterday were:

S.G: 1.025
Temp: 79-80
Ca: 400
Alk: 9
PO4: 0.47 - was 0.84 late last week. My API P04 kit showed 0 each time until I got a Hanna. Now I'm doubting my NO3 kit.
NO3: 10

I too focused on water isdue
I’m so, run small pouch of chemipure blue which will polish water and help reduce I organics and remove any toxins if present

I added Fluval Clearmax a few days ago and a big bag of Carbon yesterday. I had a small bag of GFO and carbon already, but when everything went haywire yesterday, I added the extra carbon as a precaution. Clearmax was there to help with the PO4 removal until I can get more GFO

I wasn't happy with the rate it was clearing, or if it was, so I did a 3 gal water change. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I feel slightly less anxious about it now lol

Huge improvement almost immediately. Will likely do another change later, definitely helping.
