Anyone have any advice and how to slow down bacterial blooms seems like anything I dose bloom whether it’s Prazipro, metroplex, neoplex only thing that doesn’t bloom is copper of course. 29 gallon qt
20 gallon qt
Both have air stones power head and HOB filters the 20gallon just has the blue spiky bio balls and the 29 gallon has a normal sponge in the filter. I try to keep minimal stuff in the filter so that I’m not pulling out any meds I’m putting in. Any advice?
Ammonia 0 on both
Nitrite 0 on both
about 5ppm nitrate on both very low hard to get a reading
salinity 1.024 on both

blooms are bacteria - or algae - so there must be a nutrient in your water you're not measuring? or it could be a sediment?

The issue you may have is you are filtering tank with a mechanical filter and lack both chemical and biological filtration. Keeping filters clean is good but what often happens is that the heterotrophs in the tank can’t keep up with production required fast enough to break down organic waste fast enough causing them to be suspended giving you the appearance you see keeping in mind the very small surface area your filter pads offer
Reduction of light will help reduce the food source of the heterotrophs
Prazi and copper good at clouding water

Is there anything I can do to help the cloudiness other than water changes? This was very new water for both tanks. Also not sure if I should make a new thread or not but I cannot get this blue tang to eat that I have in qt he doesn’t look bad at all I’ve tried just about everything nori soaked in garlic rods herb mix soaked in garlic brine shrimp mysisshrimp lfs pellets I think my only option here is to order some live food. I’ve read a lot about these fish and seems a lot of people have some issues with them when they first put the fish in I’m nearing a week of having him still is very very shy.

Are there any other symptoms? It sounds like oxygen shouldn't be a problem - BUT - with a bacterial bloom it can be. My guess is that your blooms are caused because you're feeding a fair bit - to get the fish to eat. Can you go through what medications you've treated the fish with - and in what order/duration? Also a picture/video of the fish would be nice

I will grab a picture when I get home in a few fish has been treated with neoplex due to what I thought was bacterial and has faded away and looking tons better. He came in with an emperor angel who didn’t look well from the get-go and passed away the third day I had it so I did a 100% water change to make dang sure nothing in the tank was getting to the tang but even the water before doing the water change was very very little ammonia and nitrates / nitrites

Okay so scratch that when I got home I snuck up on him and caught him nipping at the nori I put in there this morning! Super happy to see this such a beautiful fish. (Ignore the bubbles in the water)
