Hey Guys

looking for advice. I just had a fish die within a couple of days in my QT, and it’s tankmates died within a few days of the same symptoms (stopped eating on the day of death, lodged themselves between rocks and we’re dead within hours. The nitrates were a little high (around 5) at the time, but everything else was fine and the coral also In the QT are fine.

The QT is a nano which was originally going to be my display tank, so has a shallow sand bend and live rock in it.

i ‘think’ that with only coral in there if I leave them in there for 76+ days whatever killed the fish will be gone and I can move the coral and put more fish in QT. Is that correct?
Thanks!

You need to find out why they died in the first place to determine when it's safe or how you can make it safe.

Quick death sound like velvet to me. First of all what fish did you have in your QT. Did they have any white spots or grain like white spots? Please provide with more info thanks.

I would recommend also to have a separate QT for only fish. No corals, no live rocks, and no sand. Instead PVC pipes, heater, filter, and an air stone. Just incase you need to dose copper in the QT. I am not sure but ick and velvet cant live on corals. Maybe I am wrong. maybe @Humblefish can help.

Thanks Sam. There weren’t a lot of visible signs (no white spots). They were Pyramid Butterflies. Good advice on the fish only QT!
