Just began dosing copper for the first time after my yellow tang has been in QT for 3 weeks. He eats great, aggressively if anything and no unusual activirt

had a few white spots but now it’s been clear for 2 weeks.

I began dosing copper this morning, woke up and he seems a little red around his head. Not sure if I never noticed it before. He is a biota yellow tang so I know they look funky sometimes .
it’s a 40g and I dosed .6ml copper per gallon
Reading .6-.7 ppm

just wondering if this looks unusual

What copper product are you using, Cupramine?

What copper test kit do you have?

Jay

Using API , wasn’t concerned about huge accuracy as I’m not trying to dose above 2 and it’s only 3 fish in there
Using copper safe

still eating a lot this morning

If it’s bacterial could I dose a anti-bacterial at the same time
There is no reason to dose prazipro - its not an 'antibiotic' per se. Maybe I'm totally blind - I do not see a problem (i.e. I don't see the redness).

Curious though - you had the fish in (observation?) QT for 2 weeks - and now adding copper? If you're planning to treat the CI on the fish - you may need to have higher levels - depending on the type you're using?

I agree on the prazi, I wasn’t thinking cus ive never used it. I mistaked it.

Yes I had them in observation for 3 weeks and I am now adding coppersafe. What is CI ?

Cryptocaryon (Ich)
Kinda figured but never heard of CI sorry . I’m slow, anyways , the redness is kinda visible but I don’t wanna treat Whats not needed if there’s nothing wrong

I almost didn’t copper treat anyway as the yellow tang had ich covered and pulled through in a few days and as well that I know some ich will find its way into the tank someday. LFS , many of them have told me to always QT , and that they always QT. I only plan to run 2 clownfish and this tang anyways.

Then I find out the same ones that they always have some ich in their tank even their huge tanks.

because they QT on a large scale with regular new additions of sick fish, as a hobbyist, with carful planning, its entirely possible to avoid ich.

anyone able to give me an idea on this redness I’m seeing on the yellow tang or is this normal for some biota tangs .

That can be done, but I prefer not to do that if possible. A bit of redness on YT is pretty common as a response to general stress. I usually opt to "wait and see" how it develops over a day or two before rushing into a treatment.

Thank you , I’m currently getting water tested by a LFS instead of my API kits

Got the test.
pH a little low , 7.6

ammonia .2
Nitrate 11
Copper 1ppm

Only thing I can see off really is the pH

Does the tank have good aeration? A protein skimmer or an air stone? High carbon dioxide can cause a low pH and good aeration helps balance that.
