if its true dinos (need pics and scope id to be sure but w pics most can id them correctly) they are obligate hitchhikers that used to not plague the hobby. this did not happen in the 90s to anyone I ever knew w a saltwater tank and I never heard about it in the early 2000s online either, now for some vectored reason they're in full swing. They've become associated with things we trade as a natural selection breadwinner luck trait and ive been wondering what has changed in the sourcing to allow for so much commonality post 2010
there is no nutrient cause to dinos, they are either imported or not.
Them riding in dormant isn't a big issue they seem to be fast expressers. I don't know of any tanks who literally have added nothing, not once source from an outside location as a possible vector, then had dinos show up say after 8 yrs maturation for ex. 100% of the time we can find fish additions (slime coat vectoring) or coral additions, big tankers are never done stocking. water transfer between possible vectors, its always something.
pico tanks run out of room too fast to keep stocking forever and in that they become excellent testbeds for dormant invaders. It is possible to make any reef tank completely free of them...and its through import control not reaction.
The number of dino issues on full sized reef boards is statistically significant
the number of dino problem tanks on equally sized boards that only run nano reefs is probably 1%, that massive distinction matters in my opinion and it reflects on sourcing as well as after the invasion care options between large and smaller systems
We know these are simple obligate hitchhikers by what makes certain tanks immune to them. dinos cannot be brought about in my system even if I added plant fertilizer because their DNA has not been brought in. im through adding frags as of a long time ago, sourced from places that love to give me bryopsis but not ever dinos not once in the history of the 20 yrs the lfs has been open. somehow their sourcing is unique I cannot pinpoint why.
