So I just bought a new bottle of Alk Reagent today and I believe it is bad. Test 1 came up 4ppm and test 2 came up 7ppm. I knew there was a issue with it as soon as I saw the color ( very light yellowish/green color). Is anyone else getting these results with this lot #? Lot # 6138 exp date: 11/2017

Have you done those tests with the same sample just repeating the reading?
I've found that whenever I do that I get different results.
Other feature it's the shake and rest and the glass surface wiping. You should shake well and let most of the bubbles disappear and wipe very well the recipient glass.

Just my opinion...

I've used my Hanna for years now. I can tell just by looking at the reagent that it's a bad batch. I was getting a test result of 4ppm. That's impossible ya know.

I could tell and anyone who uses a Hanna checker for alk could tell the color was way off

I just bought my Hanna from BRS and my bottle has that same lot and expiration date. I have only run one test on 2 tanks so I guess I need to do some testing. I might nees to call them too! Thanks for the info!

I created this thread to let people know that there was another bad lot number going around. Thanks for chiming in though. Happy reefing!
This is getting to be a habit with them.

Interestingly enough the last time this happened i did side by side tests with replacement bottles and the suppposed bad bottle and they tested the same....

Best guess
...some of the bottles in that lot number were bad...not all.

Aggrivated anyway.

No problem, also look at the color. Mine was a milky yellow and it is supposed to be a darker green color. I called Hanna and they gave me no issues and will be sending me a new bottle at no charge.

I hear you! It's frustrating cause they are supposed to be the best in biz. The color was way off with this batch and my test results were 4 ppm and 7 ppm, lol

Good to know. Im always doubting my alk kits. Ive got hanna, salifert, and api. If all three dont agree i have a diy alk standard. 1.135 g of baking soda in 1 gallon distilled water =10dkh. This standard may not worj with hanna as a precaution, but no problem with acid based/ph dye kits.

My hanna bottle has a slight brown green color. Normal?

Ya that sounds like the normal color. And thanks for the tip on double checking dkh!
