So i brought home a red sea 170 max the other day and i guess on the way home there is a tiny crack by where they have holes where you can add an external sump. So far i siliconed it and its barley leaking maybe 1 or 2 drops a day. what can i do in this situation how can i fix this. and buying a new one is not an option. Bad news is i bought it from someone so i am not sure if the warranty is going to work

Generally speaking cracked glass is the end of the tank. It is a catastrophic failure waiting to happen. I know it isn’t good news. I’d try to get it replaced if you can. Did you crack it or did you buy it cracked?

I think we cracked it moving it. Or in the car ride back. So it’s on the overflow part not on the tank it self. So i think it’s 2 different pieces of glass and the only thing is that it doesn’t hold as much water as the tank it self it only has some water in it at a time

If it is in the overflow you might be able to epoxy piece of glass over the crack. A pic would help

Awful picture cause if the silicone mess but it’s circled in the black

It’s the bottom of the over flow I really can’t get a better picture because that’s the only spot that is open with the stand

That is a tough one. It looks like it extends from that bulkhead to the frame. I am gonna let others chime in. You coukd try a repair with epoxy and glass patch. If it were me I would not be able to sleep and save foe another tank

I am using the over flow. I have the all in one red reefer. So only like 5 or 6 gallons of water is back there at a time I just epoxied it and it seems to be doing ok currently

Ok... so we're looking up at the overflow from underneath?

Not a risk I would take, sorry friend

Epoxy Won’t stick to glass permanently. Use silicone

Maybe some of the 3M structural adhesive? 3M DP100 or 3M DP105 - both available on Amazon. You also have to get mixing tip and gun. (This gun is cheaper than the 3M version https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001SN7RHC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Says it will bond metal to glass or glass to plastic. You could try to cut a small piece of acrylic and glue with epoxy.

I use both of those working on aircraft. They are both a 5 minute epoxy at best.

A better choice would be aerodite 9354 structural adheasiv but it’s expensive and I wouldn’t trust it either
