I kinda impulse bought a gold torch for 30 dollars lol, it has some algae growing on its skeleton, is that fine?

+1 Pictures might be helpful, but my first thought is that it probably wouldn’t be too bad. If it’s a more invasive algae it may take some management to control/remove, but it shouldn’t be devastatingly bad.

Looks like a lot of the tissue has already receded. Given the right environment it's not a goner though.

you mean the polyps? I just got this out of the bag, it was very open at the LFS (less than 30 minutes ago)

Im just pouring some tank water every once in a while so it will have less of an alk and salinity swing

You can have good Polyp extension with tissue recession. The tissue extends down from the head and is a sign of a healthy coral. The store likely got the torch wholesale and it was on its last leg. The store likely had good water and the torch was happy, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Once you can see the skeleton underneath you just have a long road back to health. This picture shows healthy tissue, and on yours you can see it’s all gone and the skeleton at the top is showing.

not to say the coral is lost, but you’ll want to make sure you have ideal conditions consistently for a while to ensure it can heal.
