Bad Puurple Tang

My tang has started to eat my acans. Anyone else ever run into this with a purple tang? He is literally devouring them.

Is there ever a GOOD Purple tang??!?!

I haven't ever heard too much good about them as far as corals are concerned.

"Tank" had to find a new home when he started in on mine.

It's ashame, this fish is so nice. I took him in from someone who broke their tank down and nursed him back to health. He has been getting along with my eibili mimic tang, so i thoght all woul be good. Then the past 2 weeks i have been fining some of my acans missing. I have a rainbow colony about 8"by12" and just caught him tearing into some polyps and tearing off the feelers.

YES! Mine started eating my acan lords. Well he started nipping constantly so I removed him post haste!

If you are feeding your corals in the daytime, he probably has learned that is the place to go for food. Coincidentally, when there is no food in your acans mouths, he eats the mouths tentacles thinking they are food.

BTW - My foxface was making the rounds with my purple, so they both had to go

Have you by chance tried feeding the tang some seaweed? Might help some.

This, i would stop feeding your corals during the day, my shrimp is constantly all over my corals when I feed during the day. On the other hand my purple tang is a sweetheart to my corals

had a purple and yellow both nip at my lps..it sucked because i really like them but had to get rid of both

Tangs are no good in terms of zoanthids/palys and other polyps so I wouldn't doubt that they would be also fiends in cases with Acans and other soft bodies LPS.

yeah....i know the feeling....i had my yellow out of no where eat about 500 polyps over the course of a weekend....

once they get a taste its bye bye fish, or lps.

gotta keep them FAT and full of nori...

LOL - that sucks!

I feed my fish 3x a day, put nori in (everything eats it including all my wrasses) and my Purple tang and Foxface both "supplemented" their diet!

They are ok, not my favorite. I have a pair of masked swallowtails coming in for the new tank, hopefully they turn out better.

Don't get me wrong, very cool fish.. I hate angelfish more, but man do I love looking at them... make sense?

He eats everything. I put nori in on a clip for the tangs. I do different foods. Blood worms, algae flakes, spectrum, mysid. He eats just about anything you put in the tank.
