Since the second baffle in a bubble trap doesn't reach the bottom of the tank... how do you tell if it leaks when you leak test the sump?

As long as you get it glued/siliconed to the sides of the sump, and it stays there, it'll be fine.
When you leak test a sump, your looking to see if the sump holds water. Atleast that was my goal everytime I did a leak test.

All you have to do is fill up the one side of the sump and the water will go over the first baffle and under the second baffle. When I tested mine I just filled it up with enough water to fill the first section and the baffles but did not go over the last baffle into the return section. The return section stayed completely dry.

it really don't matter if the baffles do leak... you just wanna make sure the perimeter seam that holds water in a tank holds... the water is gonna go threw or over the baffles anyways...

+1 on that. As long as it is attached it will not make a big difference. It is there to allow the bubbles to rise against it, not to retain water.
