I have about 140g of actual water volume in the system that consume Alk at about 1.5 dkh per day.
http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html - This Calculator says I need about 23.8 grams, approx 5 tsp, or 0.8 oz of baking soda per day.
Trying to minimize the amount of times per day that I need to add it so would it be ok to break it into a morning and evening addition? Say I mix up 2.5 tsp in the morning with some fresh water and dump it in all at once and then repeat in the evening. Would this be ok?
For many years I have been raising alk instantly from about 4 to around 6 or 7 with my once monthly 50% water change with no ill effects so I know it can handle a rapid increase.
I also see a recipe that calls for 1 and 1/8 cup baking soda mixed with 1 gallon of water but I must have missed the part where it mentions how to store it and how long it stays good for. I would ideally like to mix up enough to last a couple weeks or a month and then just tap into it once a night. Would be grateful for any direction to this aspect as well.
Thank you.
