Are there any peeps on here that make their soda and ash dosing parts by cooking and not cooking baking soda? Saw some info on this quite a while back and was wondering if anyone takes this direction to save on dosing. Also do you have the recipes?

I bake 2 1/4 cups at 300 for an hour, this makes a gallon

Want does baking do? Is this a alternative to commerial buffers to maintain alk levels?

I know a handful of peeps that have used this in supplementation to their 2part dosing throughout say a few months as a substitute

I bake mine. 2cups 350 degrees for a hour. bake will raise alk. and will not affect ph. Uncooked will change ph for a short while.

Here's the poop on cooking Baking Soda. Baking Soda is sodium bicarbonate. By cooking it at 300 degrees for an hour, you convert it into sodium cardonate.....carbon dioxide is released. By cooking 2 1/4 cups and then making that up to one gallon with RO/DI water, you now have the same concentration as other ALK two-part (B-Ionic, as an example). If you have too high a pH, just dissolve the 2 1/4 cups of baking soda in a gallon of water.

One last point, Soda Ash is sodium carbonate...(cooked baking soda)

+1. Most cook to have sodium carbonate as they have lower PH and helps to drive it up...
