Hello,

I just acquired a pair of Bali Picasso and I have had them in QT for about two weeks. I have noticed one of the fish has developed some black and blues(scales slightly raised below area) on it. Does not appear to be ich or black ich.

I have treated the fish prophylactically for 7 days with prazipro for possible flukes. I have also completed a 5 day course of Maracyn and Maracyn 2.

The fish is eating. However the spots seem to be getting worse. The appears distressed and likes to swim near surface and hang out in corner but is not breathing fast. Unsure if i need to treat the fish with anything or just observe. It is now spreading to the other fish.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My parameters are fine

PH 8.1
Salinity 1.022
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5

Whatever it is it has spread to the other fish. Must be an infection of some sort. Unsure what to treat for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'd start with a round of antibiotics. Kanaplex, furan 2, metroplex. In that order. If you want to get the widest spectrum combine all three following the directions on each box and adding plenty of oxygen to the water via a small power head or large air stone. You must do this in a QT. good luck

Thank you for your reply. The fish are already in a QT. I have completed a 7 day course of prazipro. I have already completed a 5 day course of Maracyn(erythromycin) and Maracyn2 (minocycline). I am currently treating with Metroplex. Do you still suggest another round of antibiotics?

I replied to your pm with more detail, but for here.... in short.... yes. 10 consecutive days of antibiotics are needed (longer if needed)

Infections are not my strong suit but as previously mentioned, watch out for brook symptoms. Nice fish by the way!

I'm still concerned about that as well. I've suggested kanaplex, furan 2 and metro.... with the metro being able to -at least partially- cover brook while the rest covers bacterial. - that was in a pm :) I figure if at the end of the 10 days nothing looks better, then other treatments can be done for brook. what cha think?

I concur 100% although might add that if obvious brook symptoms arise it may be time to abandon ship but that is not likely I am thinking

I agree. Not too likely in this case, but something that should be watched for anyway.

Sorry for not updating you guys. So the clowns are doing better still eating. All the black and blues are gone. I am pretty sure this is a parasitic infection of some sort(I think skin fluke). I have switched over to using general cure have completed a four day course so far. I thought i finally defeated it but I saw a new red mark on the small clown today. Going to continue the general cure for 4 more day hopefully will be done.
