i have a 48" 4 bulb t-5 fixture. I want to know what's a good ballasts that can run 4 54w t-5 bulbs. It has a timer on front but I'm not sure the name of the fixture I bought the fixture used and there was no numbers on the ballasts when I opened up the fixture.

Workhorse makes a good ballast that works well. another if you can find them are the ice caps

Whatever ballast you choose, make sure it's a programmed start ballast, not rapid start. T5 bulb life will last longer with the more efficient for our purposes, programmed start ballasts. I believe HEP or Philips Advanced are what you'd want. Not sure what Workhorse ballasts are.

OP go to home depot and buy either an ICN-2S-54 or an ICN-4S54 by Philips. 40 bucks. Also make sure your endcaps are unshunted.
