Like the title says, recommendations for 400w ballast to run radium lamps.

I had 3 lumatek electronic ballasts.. but none of the three will fire my lamps, so now I’m in the market for new ballasts. Thanks!

Easiest is to buy a luxcore or the new icecap electronic ballasts from BRS , premium aquatics ..

Or else you can go to hamiltontechnology.com and buy one - Dave is a very helpful man over at Hamilton and will help you .

m59 magnetic or a 400w electronic ballast. Either will work.
How long is the radium 20k bulb will last with M59 ballast. I thought the M80 is the proper ballast to run 400w radium 20k

Ended up going with icecap ballasts from brs. Was relieved that all 3 fixtures fired up immediately. Was worried before when I had all 3 luxcore ballasts not working that there might be something wrong with my lamps.

I think that you have missed the mark here. The Lumatek ballasts are great MH ballasts and have no issues what so ever firing Radium bulbs. I ran Lumatek 400 watt ballasts for years on my 400watt radium bulbs when I ran MH's. I still have the equipment.

Are you sure you had 400watt Radium ballasts? This sounds like an electronic issue if all three were failing. Did you have the 400 watt only lumateks or the selectable version?

I had gotten the selectable. They wouldn’t fire on either 400 or 400SL modes. I had read great stuff on the lumateks and specifically when for them as my first attempt in ballast selection. Took apparent one of them and it looked like it might have seen some water damage.. darn eBay

I got one of mine out so you have reference next time you get some used equipment. The ballast should never be around water. They come with like 10ft cables. Mine look like the day I got them out of the bag. Just inspect the wires etc next time. This is closeups that you should ask for. Glad you are up and running.

For the selectable icecap electronic ballast (150w/175w/250w), is the “super lumens” setting the correct setting to run the radium?
