Balling ratio and Part C

Hello.

I understand that using Calcium Chloride and Sodium Carbonate mean that i accumulate Sodium Chloride in my tank (in a good ratio if the products used for KH and Calcium use the good ratio like in the balling method).

So we use the TM Part C (or other brand) to keep the good ratio into mainly the major elements but also the minors/trace.
If this keep the ratio, this salt do not contain Sodium Chloride at all so to maintain this "ionic balance" we mainly need Magnesium Sulfates, Potassium Sulfates, Potassium Bromide, etc.

For exemple Magnesium Chloride or any Chloride/Sodium based element is not in the Part C to always keep the right ratio and do not increase more the Chloride/Sodium ?

Do we have an idea for the ratio from Magnesium Sulfates/Potassium Sulfates and other elements in this product ?

I hope I understood the question.

I do not think it is needed or even useful for a magnesium supplement to be anything more than 10:1 magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate. The effect on anything is is too small to worry about.

FWIW, magnesium is the main cation in Part C.

I was more asking about the Part C, does Part C include Magnesium Chloride or any chloride/sodium supplement or is it not a good idea and part C is mostly Magnesium Sulfates and other major ions except Chloride and Sodium ?

There is a lot of magnesium and sulfate in part C. I dont know if it has magnesium chloride in it, but I expect it does. Salt mixes can be formulated in different ways to reach the same ion concentrations.

The packaging says sodium-chloride-free salt, and the texture of the powder is very sulfate-like.

I don’t think there’s chloride, but I could be wrong. :)

I expect it is literally their salt mix, without sodium chloride. Maybe without calcium and alk. But it does contain chloride, from ingredients such as potassium chloride, etc.

In any case, is the question just for curiosity, or are you using the info in some way?
 
I'm still confused how Part C not the equivalent of their A&K plus mag. I grasp the Balling Method, however.

A and K offsets consumption in some fashion. Part C is everything in salt water at salt water ratios, aside from sodium chloride. So Part C includes a lot of sulfate, potassium, bromide, borate, etc.

Just getting ready to start the TM C and was wondering the ratio while using Randy's 2 part? I know I read it somewhere but figured sense the topic was up I could be lazy.

If you are using my recipe #1 (soda ash) then you use 2 volumes of Part C for each volume of the calcium (or alk) part dosed.

Here’s one of the BRS dosing issues. Hopefully they will fix it.

 
Sadly, BRS seems unable to understand the problem and continues to provide incorrect information.

Hi Lou and Hans-Werner,

Perhaps you will have better luck getting your Balling Part C reseller to correct their incorrect directions on how much Balling Part C to add, and also that they should not be recommending both my Part 3 (magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride dosed in an amount to maintain the sulfate to chloride ratio) PLUS Balling Part C.
