I know, likely just a weird thought. But could you add mag to either ca or alk mixes and dose mg with one of them from the same vessel? Would you get precip like you would if you dosed ca and alk at the same time or mixed?

You wouldn't add Them at the same rate. Don't know how we'll they mix.

Not sure what mixing would do but I dont think the rate difference would matter; you could dilute the mag to correct this?

Sounds more troublesome than simply dosing it separately. I don't even mix my own mag, because i don't use it enough to want to go through the trouble. I just have a bottle of it and add a bit each week.

Jihntran - I was planning to manually dose mag each week, but if I can dilute the mag and mix it with either the alk if ca then I gotta think things would be more stable with automated dosing. Right?

Anyone know what mixing mag with ca or alk solutions does exactly?

FWIW I added my mag from th ediy two part to the calcium solution. Used it for awhile until I heard a large "clunk" one day. Seems the calcium chloride and magnesium sulfate precipitated a large ball of calcium sulfate.

Perhaps you could if you were just using magnesium chloride though.

Im pretty sure if you try mixing them you will see allot of precipitation. I have some already mixed at home I can do a little experiment later it you like.

I think it would be easier to figure out your Mg consumption and mix it with you ATO water.
