Could be flukes, could be detritus in the water, could be a water quality issue (that's why I asked what you are using to monitor the ammonia).

Which brand for water testing kits would you recommend?

I'll have an eye on them. Today both were breathing normaly.

Overall, for single parameter tests, I think the Salifert series is pretty good. Seachem are also good.

Dear Jay, sadly i have to say that my bamboo probably got gill flukes. He is yawning often now and at night swimming to the surface and shaking it's head since today. Thats the first time he did that. The last times it was the yawning and belly rubbing.
The days when he was fine and the days when he is often yawing and flashing come close to the cycle of flukes.
No ammonium, no nitrite detected.

I did some Research and i could use prazipro. Prazipro is not avaible in germany, but same recepture other Name, found it weile Research in other groups.

Unfortunately it looks like I've got flukes in the DT. It'll be impossible to catch any fish at all, so I'll have to treat the DT. Prazipro however isn't sold in my country (Netherlands). Did manage to order some on ebay, but shipping is at least 2 weeks from the US, possibly even longer. So...

i would buy the kusuri, but i want to know from you what are the chancen that it is no flukes. And when should i start the treatment? When symptoms appear, or when he is fine again?
i know i need a second treatment for Sure.

The iodide dose I gave can also be used to prevent goiter in sharks.
I’ve never used calcium iodate so I can’t advise you on that.

Hi Jay, I know it’s an old forum but hoping you could help me out. I got the mazuri iodine pills- been having a hard time getting my blue spotted ribbon tail ray to eat them, as he likes krill the most and I can’t fit the iodine pill inside the krill- can I defrost the krill and iodine in a cup, so that the krill will be infused with it?

I got the mazuri iodine pills- been having a hard time getting my blue spotted ribbon tail ray to eat them, as he likes krill the most and I can’t fit the iodine pill inside the krill- can I defrost the krill and iodine in a cup, so that the krill will be infused with it?

The problem with that is twofold: soaking food in a drug doesn’t work well, it rinses off just as fast as it soaks in, and you don’t know how much the fish actually got. Then, iodine is really bitter and it may turn the fish off from eating food soaked in it.
Shouldn’t you be cutting the pills up for a small ray? I forget the dose, but I thought you need to do that with small fish.

Yeah, but still- he doesn’t like silversides, and I can’t get the pill inside pieces of krill, I’m kinda stumped on what to do now

Sorry, I don’t have a good solution for you. Some people use Mazuri gel or other gel diet with iodine added, but I’ve found that rays don’t like that and it is really messy.

IDK, I’ve never had a blue spot ray develop goiter, so maybe this isn’t a huge issue for them, or maybe not until they’ve been in captivity a long time?

Good to know- the only reason I was gonna attempt to give him this pill was because k thought they needed it. Would a varied diet also give my ray the same nutrients?
