I bought a banana wrasse last week and when I got him it had a bulge on one of its sides. I have it in a QT and it seems to have trouble swimming and lays on it's side or sometimes goes upside down. I'm assuming it's a swim bladder issue. its eating and can swim correctly just doesn't seem like it can do it for very long before it lays on it's side. is there anything I can do to fix this? I read online that if you can get it to eat frozen peas that can act as a laxative and help remove a impaction if it's constipated. I think it ate one of the peas I put in there. just didn't know if you guys had any info on this.

This is a very hard thing to treat if it is in fact a swim bladder problem. As far as I know there's really nothing you can do other than maintaining good water quality and keeping it well fed and hopefully the issue will resolve itself. Otherwise you might have to consider euthanasia. Good luck.

never heard of the pea tx... let us know if it works for ya! Despite I'm very sorry to say this... but don't get your hopes up:sad:... usually when fish are at this stage, it's very hard for them to recover.. best of luck though!

Swim Bladder infections are usually the result of dirty needles while "pinning" the fish for decompression. I would suggest starting the fish right away on a antibacterial, such as Bi-Furan or Furan-2.
