Hello,

I noticed today that my bangaii’s gills look very inflamed. I haven’t added any new fish in a year or so, no sure if that helps. The only difference is my clowns have started laying eggs and the female is getting a bit agressive - could this have anything to do with it?

Sorry for the poor quality photos.

Found this picture - looks very similar to this.

Could be lympho. Does it look cauliflower like or cotton like? Sometimes lympho forms behind the fish's eye causing "popeye" condition. Not much you can do other than great food (frozen and or fresh with some vitamins like Selcon, Zoecon, etc.) and pristine water conditions.

The first thing I thought of when I noticed was it looked like an egg sack or something. His eyes do look a bit imflamed now that you mentioned that - is eating normal though. All other fish acting completely normal too. Do I need to set up my quarantine tank or is something that will likely only affect the bangaii?

Lots of argument about lympho. It seems to show when a fish's immune system is compromised. Thus the great food/vitamins and water: avoid flake or pellet foods. It can spread but usually not to other fish in the tank.

Thank you. I will keep feeding LRS with Selcon and running gfo/carbon. I am getting ready to do a water change now. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

Just keep a close eye on the area, watching for any redness or white-ish coloration. If so, then it would be bacterial probably and need of treatment with antibiotics: Ruby Reef Rally (bath), Kanaplex, Sulfaplex, NFG, etc. in QT.

It doesn’t seem he’s getting any better. I am setting up my QT now. I have MelaFix, MetroPlex and Focus on hand; I’m ordering salt now so can get anything else if you have something better to suggest?

Ruby Reef Rally has both antiseptic and antibiotic qualities and would be a very gentle first step. NFG (nitrofuracine Green Powder) is a very popular antibiotic used by shipper and LFS, and is particularly good on those "red sores" that can go south real quick, killing the fish. The trifecta of Kanaplex +Furan2 + Metro, covers all the bases and most consider it as their go to for nasty bacterial infections. Sulfaplex + Neoplex works wonders on infections in the face/head area.

Is it ok to mix the ruby reef and Furan2? I’m on day 2 of ruby reef and the furan arrived today.

Now that the fish has had a nice long bath in RRR ;), I'd consider doing a water change and running some carbon to remove the RRR, and then dose with the Furan2. Remember, antibiotics are very slow acting on saltwater fish. Give the Furan2 at least 10 days and as many as 14 days for it do help the fish's immune system.
