We got 3 bangaiis today and put them in qt but we have no idea if they’re m/f/both. What do you think?? I put a coloured dot to represent each one if that helps

I’ve looked at a bunch of pictures but can’t figure out the whole vent thing. I tried feeding them to see if it would help but they still all look the same to me

Forgot to mention, yellow dot seems to almost have a reddish hue to its body and flares it’s gills/fins around the other fish when I’m by the tank. Not sure if that means anything. They are all about 2.5-3” for size reference

I’m assuming they’ll split off into a pair at some point and we’ll have to return one, but it’d be nice if they ended up as a thruple lol

I’m pretty sure there the same as clownfish, all boys untill the more dominant becomes the female , I could be wrong tho

From the research I’ve done they seem to be born one or the other. How you can tell the difference? I have no idea. It sounds easy in theory but they all look the same to me. Maybe they are for all I know

Just wait like I did! Now Bruce my big Banngai has eggs in his mouth again! And Anchor keeps chasing chum away from him.

I've bred Bangaii before, and I could never figure out M/F. The only way I've ever done it was to get 2, hope, and keep replacing one until it worked.

I've bred bangaii plenty of times as well and also couldn't figure it out. I tried venting and failed miserably and like the above just left them to figure it out, which is by far the easiest way.
Venting may work on sexual mature fish if you get your timing right.

I've seen plenty of people claim to identify them from pictures but they are only right the same amount of times they are wrong. They normally says its to do with the jaw but a gob full of eggs is the best I'd.

The method many people use is buy three, hope that you don't get 3 males or 3 females, wait for 2 to pair up, and remove the third who will be chased to the upper corner of the tank.

In my case I didn't want to risk it so I just got two and got super lucky.
