my female banggai cardinal died this am. For the past three days she has had a pink color to her body and I naively took it to be related to her current egg laying which was about the same time. Any ideas what happened or why the coloration?

Need more detail.

How long have you had the fish?

How long has the tank been up and running?

Did you QT the fish prior to introduction?

How large is tank? Other inhabitants?

I have had the fish about 3 months
Tank has been up for 4 months
Did not QT the fish
Tank is 45 gallon
Other inhabitants: 2 dragon face pipe fish, 1 seahorse, male banggai, starry blenny
Fish has had two egg laying cycles, ate a lot and was tank raised not wild caught

Anything else, let me know - I appreciate any help you can provide.

I feed live amphipods that I raise, BBS to the fry and they make there way into the DT and then Tiger Pods from ReefNutrition, as well as frozen Hakari Mysis.

Did she display the same pinkish coloration with the last egg cycle?

Wondering if you might be dealing with an infection of some sort . . .

Sorry for your loss - though they're not the most active, Banggai have a restrained elegance I find charming.

Bruce: thank you for the response. The pinkish coloration was noted with the last egg laying. Wonder how I would know if it was an infection? She still had her big appetite.

Sorry I missed your response yesterday. It does sound as if there was some sort of infection or other internal issue by your description.
