Hey guys, I added a banggai cardinal as my first fish 3 days ago and it’s been swimming in one corner of the tank. Not sure if the flow is too strong. I’m using a Jebao sow-4 wave maker and the speed i set it at is at the lowest. If I off it the corals aren’t gonna get much flow so I don’t really know what to do and hope you guys could advice me on what to do. It occasionally swims to another corner behind the aquascape but most of the time it’s always swimming at the front left corner of my tank. Another problem is that it’s not accepting what I feed him. I tried pellets and Mysis shrimp. He just spits it out. I’m afraid he might starve himself. I attached a video so hopefully you guys can see

He might still be adjusting to your tank. It'll take some time for them to be comfortable and swim around freely

its a very picky eater, you will have to try different food and find out what it likes. In my opinion, bangaii is not an easy fish to keep, but it has nothing to with the flow, I would not adjust the flow for a fish, the fish will find a spot that it likes. Good luck

My bengai cardinals never went for pellets. They did like enriched adult brine shrimp and mysis. I run my tank with pretty high flow….. Something like a 75 fold turnover rate. The bengai cardinals certainly do not look like very good swimmers but they never had any problems. They even liked to surf the powerheads.

I have had 2 Bengai's for about a month now. They have ignored pellets unfortunately. Both would occasionally eat mysis shrimp, one more than the other. Did some more reading and apparently they like to hunt at night, so i have started to feed the mysis at the tail end of the ramp down period/in the morning at the start of the ramp up and they eat it up. I also put the pumps on feed mode (5%) to keep the bits moving, but not moving too fast. Hope that helps!

The wild ones can be difficult to feed, much better luck with the captive bred ones. From what I read they are nocturnal, I’ve had a few and they barely moved during the day but night time they swam the whole tank.
