I went to my LFS today and bought 2 Banggai Cardinals. They were aqua cultured either by Biota or the fish breeders up here in Maine. They looked really healthy in the stock tank, nothing wrong with these fish. The bags the LFS uses are printed most of the way around the bag. I temp acclimated for 20 min and matched salinity exactly to what they use. I even have the same Milwaukee digital refractometer they use. I open the bag and in my QT they go. One is fine the other hits the bottom on its side and is breathing really heavy. I call the LFS, and they said that this happens sometimes. Some fish get so stressed they have a heart attack. More so in fresh water, but some saltwater fish like cardinals have this happen. That pore Banggai didn’t live an hour. The LFS did credit my account, but I feel really bad for that fish. I have never heard of a fish having a heart attack... Have you?
