Banggai Cardinalfish pair - hot or not

Hi all,

I bought a pair of captive-bred Banggai Cardinalfish a month ago and after 3 weeks one of them started to show dominant behavior. He/she follows the other one all the time and occasionally bites (see the first video). I was prepared to take them back to the store but started having second thoughts. They spend all the time together and the dominant one tries to stay very close to the other one (see the second video). No shaking though.

Does this behavior seems to you like they are opposite sex but have conflicts or the same sex but for some reason spend time together?

The tank is 250l running for one year. They both eat well and have no problem with other tankmates.

Seem like cardinals to me. I think your fish are trying to tell you something: "clean the glass".

Heh, I have 3 Pajama Cardinals, one of them is off on its own, the other two sort of pal around, every once in a while one of them chases the other for a split second, but no biting. On the other hand, they barely get time to themselves with my orchid dottyback.

My 2 Oscellaris clowns sound like your two Benggai's. The smaller one tries to stick close to the bigger one, but if the bigger one is anywhere near the BTA, it chases the smaller one off. Everywhere else in the tank is fine, but that BTA is the "dominant" clowns territory haha.

Looks like just straight up aggression to me.

When it's opposite sex and the male is trying to get eggs there a shimmy that goes on.
The whole body vibrates type thing.
