Can Banner fish be kept in a tank with corals,? I have seen many comments to the negative, but the person who had my tank before me successfullay housed Banners along with corals with no problems. Has anyone been able to keep banner fish from nipping at the corals?

Bannerfish comprise several diverse genera among Chaetodontidae, even the copperband is a bannerfish. Hemitaurichthys are generally considered near completely reef safe planktivores. Chelmon, chelmonops and Forcipiger are generally considered reef safe with caution, some individuals are totally safe, some are problematic with specific groups of corals. Johnrandallia are generally considered not reef safe. Most Heniochus are considered not reef safe with the exception of H. diphreutes which is a planktivore.

Your best bets: Yellow Pyramid, Zoster, Schooling Bannerfish. (Can be kept in groups if your tank is large enough and they’re added at the same time)

Often works: Chelmon, Forcipiger spp. (Hard to pair / keep in groups and get larger)

If you want to take a risk: Longfin, Red Sea, Masked, Singular Bannerfish, one of the brown Bannerfishes of Heniochus. (Longfin, Masked, Singular get to 9-10”, so make sure your tank is at least 6’)

I've got a longfin in my coral display. Eats some Zoas but leaves everything else alone. Just moved all my Zoas to my seahorse tank (except sunny D's and rasta's, he doesn't eat them for some reason). Really love him because he destroys apistasia aswell.
