You submit your tank for reef tank 365, if its selected and featured you get the badge.

If they were that easy everyone would have them ;) :P
Hospitality (welcoming new members to the forum)
Excellence (going above and beyond and helping other members)
Partner member (I believe the drive is still going on)
Are all banners that can somewhat easily be attained.

Click on the links at the bottom of Crabs post were is says Glitter and Fairy, long story, but a very good one.

It takes time. I help members every day and yet to get excellence banner but its about helping each other, not so much the badge for me. Ultimately, seeing others succeed or recover from various issues is a reward in itself.
 
As stated it can take time or you have to be selected for some. I hope to get reef tank 365 one day. I've also started getting more involved with responding to others needing help or welcoming instead of just lurking & reading. This is the first forum that I actually participate in even though i'm a member of other hobby forums.

Definitely not a popularity thing. Im not popular at all ;) If you see a member that is being hospitable or being excellent, report them to the moderation team. We will then discuss and determine if the user does in fact deserve the award:) As moderators we cannot see everything on the forum, so we rely on users like you to report stuff. And the report button absolutely does not have to be used only for bad stuff. We very much enjoy getting reports of friendly posts or helpful posts :)

I do believe all posts are read by the moderators. I don;t know how all of them are given out. Supporting member & partner member are given out to people that help the site financially. Reef Tank 365 is selected by mods I believe.

All posts are not read by the moderation team. That quite honestly would be impossible. As @Crabs McJones said above, we rely on the members to use the report button for both good and not so good topics and issues.
