That is exactly my plan on my new tank. I want to keep my pistol and goby pair but want most of the tank bb. I will try to create a dam area with sand by using rockwork and leave the rest bb. (Actuall textured abs) Worst case if it doesnt work I'll vac the sand out.
I want the bb areas for growing zoas and such.
, don't know their life span...yet..lol.I'm expecting a little bit extra maintenance because I'm sure the pistol and my clowns will keep moving the sand. I bought some shelf rock from BRS and some of the pieces are very flat and hopefully will make a nice dam that won't look too out of place.Yes, have also been fiddling around with different boundary area ideas for a small sand bed, as want to still keep the coons for as long as I can, don't know their life span...yet..lol.
been BB for over a decade and for SPS, would never go back.

Awesome. I’m checking it out thanks for input. I can always spray or glue some additional “grain/sandiness”!
Here is a bare bottom tank for all you bare bottom lovers.
PS - not my tank

I love all the growth on the bottom of the tank! I love seeing tanks like yours!
I’ve been thinking about going BB... but I was worried my trach and fungia wouldn’t take well to it. I was wondering how yours like the glass?I've always enjoyed bare bottom and sand. Both have pros and cons. The bare bottom was easier to maintain for us. Our next tank will have sand.![]()
They didn't mind the glass at all. Grew very well on bare bottom.I’ve been thinking about going BB... but I was worried my trach and fungia wouldn’t take well to it. I was wondering how yours like the glass?
