No, its not what you think..;).....I started my 4th QT today with a stunning bicolor angel. In all my previous QTs, I used a sand substrate. This time I went bare bottom. I noticed immediately my angel attacking his reflection from the bottom tank glass.

It's common knowledge that some fish will attack their reflections from a mirror, but is this a common problem for those who QT their fish with no sand?

Should I be worried that this angel will stress himself out or seriously exhaust himself? He is relentless and seems unwilling to take a break.

Just turn off the tank light, and he will stop attacking his reflection.

P.S. I came here thinking I would find some really awesome photos... of your new fish, of course. ;)

I cant just keep him in the dark all the time. But, I think I hear you telling me not to worry about it.

What about some ambient light? A nearby window where you can open curtains/blinds during the day. Or from a nearby lamp.

I QT 50-60 fish at a time in a large room, and all they really get is light from a window. Even when I feed them. I only use aquarium lights over my QTs to check for diseases, injuries, etc.

I tried some of that. None of it worked. But it was getting late so I did not give it to much effort. In the morning if he is still a spaz, I will probably put sand back in.

I just thought it was weird that I have not heard this as a problem before since NO ONE seems to use sand in QT.

Painted one of my QTs with dark blue/black paint on the bottom, ends and back panel to eliminate the same behavior. Works pretty good. Really calms them down. ;) And then only ambient room/window lighting for several days as @Humblefish mentioned above.
