I know, the title is slightly misleading...

I'm planning a 120 build that will be bare bottom but I'm also interested in keeping wrasse. I have found few examples of people putting trays of sand in their BB tanks but would love to see more if anyone is doing this.

Ideally I would make a small "lagoon" around the sand tray, and conceal it with live rock around it. Hopefully this would shield the sand from being blown around. The tank will be primarily LPS, with limited SPS so flow wont be crazy high.

What do you think? I know this can be done but for those who have tried, is it worth it?

My large tank is a bare bottom setup but I have two sand dwelling wrasses. I originally used a Tupperware tray filled with sand but eventually I made up a larger acrylic tray and filled it with some sand and put it in the back of the tank so its out of sight. Once the wrasses find it they will burrow into the sand every night. I have had some spilling of sand over time but is has not created any issues in the tank.
